Visit Britain: GREAT CHINESE NAMES FOR GREAT BRITAIN
Why is this write-up in English, and not, say, Tamil? Because for centuries, the British have been imposing their language on everyone, and slapping their own names on other people's property. We figured it was time the world returned this favour. So when Visit Britain, the national tourism agency of Great Britain, told us to attract Chinese visitors to the UK, we invited the Chinese to coin their own names for British sights and landmarks. What ensued were some silly, surprising and sometimes head-scratching results.
